  • SERVE education research center: The SERVE Center is a university-based research, development, dissemination, evaluation, and technical assistance center. From large-scale experimental studies to small-scale qualitative work on topics ranging from early childhood to high school reform, SERVE builds the capacity of educators and policymakers to improve educational outcomes for students of all ages.


Ihre Aufgaben


The Associate Director reports to and works closely with SERVE's Executive Director to plan and facilitate organizational process improvements. This position helps to underpin the infrastructure of SERVE to build its capacity to better facilitate communications and collaborations across its multiple portfolios, as well as work to continually improve understanding across the organization. This includes the development and execution of internal inputs that impact organizational culture, such as operationalizing the mission, vision, and core beliefs, implementing long-term planning strategies. This also includes building capacity and operations through streamlining and formalizing best practices that have been implemented based on established procedures. This position supports senior staff in actively identifying and nurturing leadership skills in employees and supports the Executive Director in communicating about organizational priorities and projects.

The position of Associate Director will also handle communications that include knowledge and information sharing to grow promising practices across Region Comprehensive Center 6 (RC6) projects and SERVE to improve organizational operations and facilitate collaborative networks. This includes encouraging relationship development between individuals who work within different teams to create ways to exchange ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities. The work will involve observing and evaluating processes and procedures in identifying opportunities to improve organizational approaches in addressing points of friction to resolve issues.

In modeling the core values of SERVE, the Associate Director operates from a framework of advancing equity through creating a climate that supports diversity and embraces inclusion and engages staff in equity-mindedness in calling attention to patterns of inequity. This position will work closely with initiatives that work to embed the advancement of equity into all SERVE projects, The Associate Director will extend this work externally to providing training and technical assistance as part of the Region II Equity Assistance Center, if granted by the USED.,

  • 5 years of progressively responsible or related experience that includes the following:
  • Facilitating federal projects, contracts, and/or grants with the U.S. Department of Education or other federal/state/local agencies

  • Providing information and technical assistance related to the education of at-risk children and youth populations

  • Developing awareness materials and conducting awareness events

  • Conducting policy review and analysis

  • Developing and conducting trainings and webinars

  • Planning and carrying out complex projects

  • Writing policy briefs, informational documents, and reports for various audiences

  • Planning and conducting customized large- and small-scale single- and cross-systems meetings and briefings

  • Working strategically on task forces and advisory councils as needed

  • Providing customized technical assistance and responding to support requests

  • Designing and facilitating professional learning and training experiences to build knowledge, new skills, and implement change management

  • Contributing to the advancement of internal initiatives and ongoing continuous improvement efforts related to operationalizing the mission, vision, and core values

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of a SERVE branded communities of practice approach

  • Advancing equity initiatives and racial equity work

  • Provide virtual technical assistance and communication

  • The position will supervise a minimum of 8 staff

    Essential Tasks

  • Advise and oversee staff with data collection and analysis to document preliminary findings within the RC6 knowledge management pilot project

  • Analyzing the cultural attributes of RC6 related to knowledge management

  • Prepare documentation of the RC6 stakeholder analysis in understanding the types of project relationships staff members have among their RC6 colleagues and state agency personnel (Quantitative) and provide assistance/advice to other staff as needed.

  • Analyze and implement strategies that support the process of the transfer of tacit knowledge within SERVE (Qualitative)

    Percentage Of Time 25% Key Responsibility Equity Assistance Center, Region II Essential Tasks

  • Manage targeted support (tier 2) opportunities for peer and community learning using professional learning communities (PLCs)

  • Contribute to the annual identification of topics for PLCs and coordinate the bimonthly discussion sessions

  • Coordinate with technical support specialist and subject matter experts in delivering tier 2 targeted support services

  • Participate in preparing summaries of the discussions and reports regarding lessons learned from the PLCs

    Percentage Of Time 15% Key Responsibility Research Essential Tasks

  • Advise and participate with conducting readiness assessments/needs assessments (e.g. focus groups, interviews, surveys) and summarizing data, conducting literature searches, compilation and analysis of research information and synthesis for reports, training materials, or publications

  • Bridge research, evaluation, policy, and practice through partnerships internal and external to SERVE
