Purpose of Position
The Department of Biological Sciences invites internal applicants who are tenured faculty at the rank of Associate or Full Professor for the position of Chair, beginning July 1, 2024. This is a twelve-month, tenured position. The ideal candidate will have excellent skills in organization and communication with the students, faculty, administration, alumni, and other parties.
Primary Responsibilities
The Chair will:
- Provide leadership in the undergraduate program in biology and related pre-professional areas
- Work to increase student success and recruitment
- Work with department faculty on curriculum development, undergraduate research, outreach programs, and faculty development activities
- Manage course scheduling, assessment of programs, and evaluation of faculty
- Manage the departmental budget and staff
- Advocate on behalf of the department's mission and represent the department at the college, university, and community levels
- Teach as outlined in the Chairs' Handbook and determined in consultation with the Dean
Qualifications
An earned Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences (or related area) from an accredited institution is required.
