Asian Development Bank (ADB) is an international development finance institution headquartered in Manila, Philippines and is composed of 68 members, 49 of which are from the Asia and Pacific region. ADB only hires nationals of its 68 members.

The position is assigned in the Risk Analytics Unit (RAU) within the Office of the Director General (OPSD) of the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD). OPSD-RAU provides the first line of defense support for risk appraisal of new and portfolio private sector operations of ADB, especially risk identification, due diligence support, financial statement and financial model review, and drafting of risk appraisals. PSOD provides financing and investment support to private projects, corporates, financial institutions, and private equity funds throughout developing Asia and the Pacific. We advise, help structure, and provide and catalyze financing for privately held and state-sponsored entities across a wide range of sectors. Our emphasis is on commercially viable transactions that generate financial returns while also delivering on ADB's organization-wide mission to promote environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Ihre Aufgaben


The Project Analyst will provide analytical support for the processing of portfolio and new transactions, with emphasis on analytical and technical support for the audit and the development of coherent financial models based on best practice and ADB's standards and templates, and to support development the implementation of portfolio analysis tools for the private sector operations of ADB. The staff will also provide analytical support to other areas of data analytics support in line with RAU's mandate.

The incumbent will report to designated International Staff or Senior National Staff.

Responsibilities

a. Financial Modeling and Audit

  • Build well-designed, well-structured and user friendly bespoke financial models for different types of companies and infrastructure projects, for debt and/or equity investments, in line with industry best practice and PSOD's criteria, and incorporating key findings from due diligence and comments from the deal teams and clients as appropriate.

  • Review, audit, modify and sensitize financial models (including proper documentation of all changes) for corporates in various sectors and infrastructure projects which have been designed and built by sponsors or ADB's deal teams for the use in ADB's risk assessment process.

  • Conduct a walkthrough of the bespoke financial models with counterparties.

  • Develop and conduct training programs on best practices in financial modeling and key accounting fundamentals and their integration into financial models.

  • Conduct financial analysis and due diligence to understand key business drivers of the companies and use findings to design and build bespoke financial models.

  • Conduct benchmark analysis using relevant peers to validate the reasonableness of the assumptions and stress scenarios used in the financial model; and

  • Perform other tasks, as may be required.

    b. Risk Appraisal of New Transactions

  • Reviews, assesses, and provides recommendations for key transaction risks, covering, inter alia, sponsor, commercial, and structure risks in proposed financing transactions.

  • Provides advice and recommendations to deal origination teams on appropriate risk mitigation measures, deal structuring, security arrangements, and financial covenants throughout the risk appraisal process; and

  • Participates in drafting risk appraisals for nonsovereign loan, guarantee, and equity transactions in both the concept review and final approval stages.

    c. Portfolio Analytics

  • Supports the design and implementation of portfolio analysis tools, and the data extraction processes for them;

  • Reviewing outputs of portfolio analytics tools, provides commentary and conclusions from the data analysis, particularly as to the impact of different drivers of overall portfolio risk profile and performance.

    d. Others

  • Participates in selected due diligence conference calls and missions.

  • Assumes ad hoc project duties and other forms of assignments, as required; and

  • Provides support to other divisions and units in PSOD as and when needed for special projects and tasks.

Relevant Experience & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or relevant fields, preferably with advanced training, and/or qualification as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

  • At least 5 years of work experience, preferably in an international bank, rating agency, accounting firm, or multilateral/bilateral development organization, in financial modeling, risk management, deal origination, or investment appraisal.

  • Demonstrated experience in: (i) designing and building financial models for different types of companies, including corporates in various sectors and infrastructure projects, (ii) modifying and auditing complex financial models for various project finance and corporate finance deals, and (iii) back-testing of financial models.

  • Strong financial analysis and forecasting skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail;

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of accounting fundamentals (including sector-specific accounting standards) and application of these concepts in building bespoke financial models.

  • Mastery in Microsoft Excel with ability to build highly granular models and various sensitivity scenarios for debt and equity transactions.

  • Good command of Power BI, Power Query, and other similar tools used in big data analysis is a plus.

  • Strong coordination, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills.

  • Good familiarity with risk rating tools, and developments in the area of risk management.

  • Strong report-writing and communication skills in English.
