Quarto Publishing Group is seeking an Associate Acquisitions Editor to join our creative publishing team. The ideal candidate will identify emerging marketable trends and potential authors in the illustrated-nonfiction space to create book concepts and write proposals based on these findings for a minimum of 8 projects per year for our various imprints. They will champion their projects through all phases of the publishing process and will be expected to work collaboratively with the editorial, design, production, sales, and marketing teams.
This role is primarily working closely with the editorial director to develop proposals for acquisitions for the Rock Point and Wellfleet list and will involve occasionally working on all imprints based with the New York Team. We publish across a broad subject range, including cooking, lifestyle, easy drawing, diverse voices, wellness, and select gift titles.
Responsibilities
Acquisitions: Identify marketable trends, make contact with potential authors, create book concepts, and write compelling proposals; make eloquent presentations at Pub Board and similar meetings when presenting projects; negotiate major deal points with authors and work with the contracts department.
Product Development: Participate in launch meetings; liaise with authors and agents; write metadata and back cover copy.
Project Management: Oversee on-time delivery of acquired projects and work with authors to ensure manuscript receipt according to contractual due dates and specifications; thoroughly assess editorial requirements and provide detailed editorial direction for each project to managing editor.
Administrative: Process invoices and contracts.
Ihr Profil
Editorial background in books or other content-rich media spaces, such as through impactful creative or journalistic work. Positions held in adjacent cultural organizations will also be closely considered. -Roving curiosity for new, diverse voices and ideas and breaking trends (with staying power). -Entrepreneurial spirit and drive necessary to channel innovation into book form. -Demonstrated ability to shape proposals and evaluate manuscripts. -Proven developmental editing expertise. -Excellent written and oral communication. -Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. -An eye for beautiful and innovative design. -Above all, a passion to publish great books.
Education and Experience Preferred
-Bachelors Degree or 3+ years of experience in publishing, media, or an editorial position.
