Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is currently the third leading cause of death worldwide with limited symptomatic therapeutic options available and no causative treatment able to reverse the progression of COPD, revealing a high unmet medical need for novel therapeutics.

The Yildirim Laboratory is interested in the immunopathology of COPD and has recently identified a role for tertiary lymphoid organ development, induced bronchus associated lymphoid tissue (iBALT) in the lung, as crucial to disease pathogenesis and by impairing iBALT development, both genetically and by pharmacological inhibition we can impair COPD development and induce tissue regeneration. The aim of this position is to leverage this knowledge for novel antisense-oligonucleotide application in our animal models of COPD, as new therapeutic targets. This will incorporate cutting-edge methods, including pre-clinical animal models of disease, multi-omics, single cell as well as traditional molecular and cell biological approaches.

Provided that the prerequisites are fulfilled, a salary level up to E 13 is possible. Social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD). The position is (initially) limited to 35 months, under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.

Ihre Aufgaben

• Writing of "Tierversuchsanträge" (=TVA, documents for animal testing)

• Analysis of preclinical animal models of lung disease

• Histopathology analysis and imaging

• In vitro and Ex vivo cell culture screening assays

• Project management (data analysis, quality assurance and monitoring, writing of reports and publications)

Ihr Profil

• PhD degree in biology or related area

• Previous experience with molecular biological techniques

• Previous experience with animal (mouse) models

• Passion for science, innovation and creative and independent work

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

• Excellent written and spoken German and English

  Other advantageous qualifications:

• A very good publication record

• Previous immunological experience
