Two research associates (m/f/d)
The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) is an association of scientists with over 300 years of history that promotes dialogue between science and society. Its scientific profile is primarily char-acterized by basic research in the humanities and cultural sciences, interdisciplinary social and political advice in various fields and the communication of science to the public.
Subject to funding, the Academy will launch the academy project "IMAGINES NVMMORVM: Thesaurus Iconographicus Nummorum Graecorum Online (ThING)", led by Prof. Dr. Annette Haug (Kiel University), Dr. Ulrike Peter (BBAW), and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Weisser (Münzkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin). The aim of the project is to unlock the potential of ancient coins for visual-study and cultural-historical questions by developing an iconographic thesaurus based on Linked Open Data. Coins are an ancient visual medium that allows image analysis and contextual information to be systematically related to each other in a special way. In this way, central image-related questions are combined with a historically and spatially defined coin production and use. The material basis will be the image repertory of ancient Greek coins minted from the 7th century BC to the 3rd century AD. The corresponding coins in the Berlin Coin Collection will be cata-logued for the project.
The academy is seeking two research associates (m/f/d) for this academy project starting on January 1, 2025
