is to be filled starting next possible date non-permanent until 31.12.2027 within the project A01 "Negation and Cancellation" (PIs: Prof. Cornelia Ebert, Linguistics/Semantics & Prof. André Fuhrmann, Philosophy/Logic). The project is part of the SFB 1629 "Negation in Language and Beyond (NegLaB)". The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to Goethe University.
The tasks of the position holder include participation in research and scientific services in the subproject A01 "Negation and Cancellation" within the SFB 1629 "NegLaB". The subproject explores negation as a linguistic-philosophical and discourse-semantic phenomenon, particularly its relationship to the semantic-pragmatic operation of cancellation, i.e., the systematic removal of information from the discourse background. The focus is on researching the logical foundations of negation as a truth-value-changing operation on one hand, and an information-deleting operation on the other, as well as a comprehensive examination and modeling of semantic-pragmatic negation and cancellation phenomena. Specifically, the following tasks are expected: Research on negation and cancellation at the philosophical-linguistic interface, development of logical and formal-semantic models of cancellation, if necessary, support in the conception, implementation, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative studies, as well as the presentation and publication of project results. The emphasis will be on logical-semantic work. The opportunity for self-directed research will be provided.
