The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, at Heidelberg University invites applications for a, We are looking for a mathematician with a clear, mathematically innovative research perspective in the area of Machine Learning and/or Data Science, and a developing track record in Optimization or another relevant core area of applied mathematics.

Active engagement within the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), the Carl-Zeiss-Center for Model-Based Artificial Intelligence, as well as the DFG Cluster of Excellence STRUCTURES is highly desirable.

Participation in the administrative tasks of the institute and the faculty is expected, as well teaching at all levels. This includes especially the planned Masters program "Mathematics of Machine Learning and Data Science", but also foundational mathematics modules.
Wir bieten Ihnen
a vibrant, internationally leading mathematical research environment with ample opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, in particular with the Natural Sciences and the Life Sciences. The professorship is a temporary qualification position. It is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. The Tenure Track Professorship (salary grade W1) will initially be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent W3 professorship. . Provided that the general legal (German civil service law) and budgetary regulations are fulfilled, it is intended that the employment will have civil service status.
