Purpose of Position Ensures purchases, installations, maintenance and repairs of locks, hardware, security services, door and panic hardware, and ADA automatic openers.
Plan, prioritize and oversee the execution of keying access security and master access security initiatives and the facility keying specifications and schedules.
Provide oversight to locksmiths. Primary Responsibilities

Assist Building Trades Supervisor with the oversight of the locksmiths by providing technical guidance and direction. Ensure campus planned and reactive work order requests are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Interact professionally with customers (faculty, staff, students and guests). Plan work according to the the following prioritization order: 1) compliance and safety; 2) security; 3) service and convenience. Work includes performing repairs, changes and maintenance on all existing hardware, locksets, cylinders. Performs re-keys to existing cylinders to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and other personnel while maintaining the campus buildings and keying schedules. Hardware includes but not limited to closers, hinges, door handles, stops, strike plates, or other hardware necessary for the proper operation of any and all doors

Use computer programs and key software to establish and maintain the master key system records, schedules and associated hardware specifications for all buildings on campus including new construction and renovations to enable accessibility, safety, and security. Provide frequent monitoring of potential security and inappropriate access risk to the campus facilities at large and report as necessary.

Work closely with the warehouse coordinator to maintain stock and assist with ordering all necessary equipment, materials and supplies, including the inventory and security of key blanks for all locks utilized on campus, including doors, desks, filing cabinets, University fleet vehicles, equipment, safes, rolling gates, etc.

Ensure the security of Locksmith shop and that cleanliness is addressed on a weekly basis. Monitor weekly the potential risks to key boxes, keying systems and pinning documents in digital and hard copy formats. Ensure lock shop budget is monitored and ensure the lock shop operates within established annual budget allocations.

Work with department managers and related consultants to develop strategic short and long range door security program, including budget proposals associated with all stages of the plans. Collaborate and consult with project managers and outside architectural design and construction groups on door and hardware specifications as well as specific ADA handicap door operators for new construction on campus in order to maintain existing standards, or upgrade standards in keeping up with constant industry improvements, and to insure continuity of door hardware trim aesthetics per building and within compliance standards as applicable.

Requires Vocational/Technical training (locksmith or carpentry), or basic facility maintenance with 4 years of experience.

Valid Driver's license required.

Thorough knowledge of locksmithing and the various types of products, hardware, locksets, and the pinning of cylinders as well as the proper tools and equipment used with each type of hardware and lock system.

The ability to read, interpret, and apply information contained in blueprints, schematics and specifications.

Strong safety awareness - knowledge of, and commitment to, trade safety measures, keeping safety of self and the University community in mind at all times.
