Chair of Physiological Chemistry

Ihre Aufgaben

The Chair of Physiological Chemistry is part of the Department of Veterinary Science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. The chair works on experimental research projects in the field of biochemistry. The main focus is on galectins, a carbohydrate-binding class of proteins. Furthermore, students of veterinary medicine are taught in the fields of biochemistry and chemistry. In a current research project, the involvement of human galectins in the course of osteoarthritis will be investigated. For this purpose we are looking for a research assistant with the aim of obtaining a PhD.

What are your tasks? Galectins are increasingly expressed in the course of osteoarthritis. We will investigate how their expression is regulated in this context. On the one hand, the promoters will be analyzed with reporter assays. On the other hand, new ligands for the individual galectins will be identified. Numerous biochemical methods are used for this purpose.

• Molecular biology work (cloning of constructs, mutagenesis)

• Cultivation of bacteria, yeasts and cell lines

• Biochemical methods (pull-downs, CHIP, reporter assays)

• Construction of a cDNA library from OA patients

• Independent planning and analysis of experiments

• Close collaboration with academic project partners

• Supervision of students during chemical and biochemical internships

• Writing of scientific publications and presentations in English language,

• Possibility to do a PhD

• The remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-l).

Ihr Profil

• Completed university studies in the field of medicine, veterinary medicine or similar

• Interest in molecular biological work (PCR, cell culture, working and handling with bacteria)

• High degree of self-responsibility, self-organization and motivation

• Strong team spirit

• Very good knowledge of written and spoken English is an advantage
