Stellenbeschreibung

Earth System Modeller

Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Potsdam, Germany
Closing date: 20 December 2024

PIK is looking for an Earth System Modeller (m/f/d) in the field of tipping point modelling, ideally starting on 01.02.2025 or as soon as possible thereafter (position number: 73-2024 Earth System Modeller).

In the context of an international research initiative, the candidate is expected to contribute to advancing the modelling capabilities with PIK's integrated Earth System modelling framework POEM with a special focus on enabling simulations of tipping points and their interactions as well as conduct model simulations for the Tipping Point Modelling Intercomparison Project (TIPMIP). TIPMIP is an international initiative that aims to systematically advance our understanding of tipping dynamics and associated critical thresholds which might commit parts of the Earth system to large-scale, non-linear change.

Requirements:
A PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g., Atmospheric Science, Climate Modelling, Mathematics, Physics, or related field), numerical modelling experience, and a good scientific publication record appropriate for the level of experience. Experience with GFDL models and good programming skills in languages such as Python, Fortran or C++ are welcomed.
