The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani ("AUIS") is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Academic Preparatory Program (APP). As the Director, you will play a key role in supervising, coordinating, and reporting on all aspects of the APP operations, including academic, cultural, and social activities, to administrators and other departments within the university. This position is located in Sulaimani, the cultural capital of the Kurdistan region in Iraq and a UNESCO-designated City of Literature., 1. Chief Administrator of APP: 1. Act as the primary point of contact for conveying and exchanging information between the President of AUIS, AUIS staff, the offices of Recruitment and Admissions, APP staff, and the Undergraduate faculty regarding APP activities. 2. Collaborate with Academic faculty to bridge the gap between the APP and the Undergraduate curriculum. 3. Establish and maintain connections between the APP and the wider community. 2. Program Goals: 1. Develop a comprehensive APP Program Plan, including strategic goals for the next 5-10 years. 2. Implement the APP Program Plan by working closely with APP Committees to brainstorm and prioritize action strategies. 3. Create actionable steps and a timeline for each goal. 4. Share program goals, objectives, and work plans with relevant stakeholders. 5. Evaluate the effectiveness of the program and manage policies by creating and revising policies and procedures as needed. 3. Program Review: 1. Ensure that the program planning and review process is conducted annually, following the conclusion of the Spring semester. 2. Review the timeline and inform all parties involved about the elements being reviewed. 3. Develop tasks and establish processes for carrying out the review. 4. Assign responsible parties for each task, including collecting and evaluating evidence, and implementing changes based on the evidence. 4. CEA Accreditation Process: 1. Ensure that the APP adheres to CEA best practices. 2. Develop reports, including self-study, to support the accreditation process. 3. Chair the Accreditation Steering Committee and collaborate with subcommittee chairs to fulfill all accreditation requirements. 5. Budget: 1. Supervise all financial expenditures, including purchasing and equipment requests from APP staff. 2. Oversee the proper use of equipment and other resources. 3. Coordinate with the purchasing department to order textbooks. 4. Monitor program expenditures to ensure financial accountability. 6. Communication: 1. Foster the exchange of ideas, information, and opinions with stakeholders to formulate and refine APP policies and programs. 2. Facilitate decision-making processes to resolve disputes or address problems within the program. 7. Management: 1. Manage the APP staff, including the Deputy Director and APP administrative assistants. 2. Oversee the hiring process for all staff, including creating job descriptions, reviewing CVs, conducting interviews, evaluating candidates, and negotiating contract terms and conditions in collaboration with the HR Director. 3. Design and manage the APP staff orientation week to introduce new faculty to the program, the university, and the unique living situation in Sulaimani. 4. Assign courses, classrooms, and students to each instructor. 5. Handle personnel issues of the APP staff and faculty. 6. Schedule and lead APP faculty meetings. 7. Conduct observations of individual classes to evaluate teacher performance, provide written feedback to teachers based on class observations, and meet with APP faculty to discuss teaching evaluations and performance reviews. 8. Evaluate staff and faculty within the APP. 9. Manage student employment by staffing student employee positions based on department needs, resources, and student availability, and submitting monthly time sheets to the Student Affairs office. 8. Reports for the VPAA, Board, and President: 1. Develop comprehensive reports tracking the progress of APP students towards readiness for the undergraduate program, taking into account their course curriculum, APP instructors, and previous educational experiences. 2. Collect, track, and review data each term, including attrition rates, graduation rates, course pass rates, enrollment figures, and program growth.

Master's degree or higher from an accredited U.S. university.

Administrative, teaching, and co-curricular or extracurricular experience in American-style higher education.
