We are looking for an academically distinguished personality who is internationally renowned in American literary and cultural studies and is capable of teaching the subject in its entirety. Expertise in methods of literary and cultural studies with regard to North American literature and its history is to be demonstrated through relevant publications and projects. The research profile should ideally include a focus on social and cultural identities, for example in the area of diversity research.
Tasks:
Teaching duties encompass a scope of 8 SWS. This includes BA and MA courses as well as all courses of study pertaining to teaching degrees for the subject English. In addition to teaching and research, relevant tasks also include the acquisition of third-party funding, supporting doctoral candidates, e.g. within the framework of the postgraduate research training group “GeKKo”, participating in the university's committees, and academic self-administration.
Requirements:
An international and interdisciplinary teaching and research history is expected. Research activities must be documented through high-quality publications (usually peer-reviewed). Experience in acquiring third-party funding and realizing projects associated with these is also expected, as is the willingness to participate in other teaching and research initiatives at the Faculty of Humanities (such as Gender Studies). Prospectively, cooperation with the international and interdisciplinary teaching and research associations at the University of Kassel, including participating in the teaching and research focus on “Sustainable Development and Transformation”, is desired.
A subject-related doctorate, habilitation, or additional academic achievements are required. Pedagogical suitability must be demonstrated through university teaching experience.
