Stellenbeschreibung

At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world's leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. With a sixty-year history, and fourteen Queen's Awards for Enterprise, our world-class products and technologies are helping our customers to address the greatest challenges of the 21st century.

At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we offer flexible, configurable process tools and leading-edge processes for the precise, controllable, and repeatable engineering of micro- and nanostructures. Our systems provide process solutions for the etching of nanometre sized features, nanolayer deposition and the controlled growth of nanostructures.

These solutions are based on core technologies in plasma-enhanced deposition and etch, ion-beam deposition and etch, and atomic layer deposition and etch.

Our new role Researcher in Residence - EU 2D Pilot Line Project position (fixed term, 3 years) to conduct 2D material integration R&D activities within the EU graphene flagship funded 2D pilot line. This is an exciting research opportunity at the interface between academia and industry to drive the development of exciting new technologies that could impact future electronics and optoelectronics. This position will be located at AMO in Aachen, Germany.

Ihre Aufgaben

This role is critical to build on our success and experience in the graphene and 2D materials sector.

In this position you will collaborate with all the relevant partners in the EU graphene flagship funded 2D Pilot Line Project to enable the next stage of technology readiness of 2D materials devices. Particular emphasis will be on developing low-damage ALD processes for encapsulation of 2D materials and enable integration of ALD layers into 2D devices.,

  • Enable activities and deliverables within the 2D pilot line project.

  • Fabricate and characterise 2D devices using the facilities at AMO to ascertain quality of ALD layers via materials and device characterization experiments.

  • Analyse the results of characterisation work, optimize fabrication processes and produce technical reports

  • Develop the technical understanding of the challenges of 2D material integration in scaled up applications.

  • Foster the collaboration between Oxford Instruments and partners towards 2D materials device applications

  • Form the liaison between Oxford instruments applications, technology and strategic business development teams and consortium partners to drive mutually beneficial advances in both organizations.

  • Attend exhibitions and conferences to represent Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology and collaborators by publishing technical papers and generating IP on graphene and 2D materials processing for scaled up applications

Ihr Profil

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electronics & Electrical Engineering or related fields

  • Minimum of 12 months experience of fabricating and characterisation of 2D devices

  • Expert at operating ALD, CVD tools and developing processes. Experience with Oxford Instruments tools would be advantageous.

  • Significant hands-on experience using ALE, ICP and RIE etch systems an advantage

  • Experience with photolithography, and E-beam evaporation,

  • Process development and optimization towards device integration via device, materials characterization feedback

  • Use of photolithography, E-beam evaporation and plasma etch tools

  • Experience in optoelectronic device characterization
